Maidstone Club

Maidstone Club was established in 1891 in East Hampton, and golf arrived a few years later when Willie Dunn laid out a rudimentary seven-hole course in 1894. The club's golf evolved through several hands over the following decades, with Seth Raynor drawing redesign plans in the early 1920s. The defining work came from two-time Open champion and renowned architect Willie Park Jr., who with his brother expanded the property in the early-to-mid 1920s to take full advantage of oceanfront dunes, Hook Pond, and Atlantic views. The club briefly ran two 18-hole courses before the devastating 1938 hurricane reduced it to today's 27 holes. Maidstone is celebrated as one of America's purest links-style experiences, with tumbling dunescapes and constant sea wind. Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw completed a sympathetic restoration in 2012 that reinforced the course's classic character and natural, windswept playing qualities.
