Dallas Country Club, founded in 1896, is the oldest country club in Dallas and traces its origins to friends playing golf near Oak Lawn and Lemmon Avenues. An 18-hole course was laid out by architect Tom Bendelow by 1912 after the club moved to its Highland Park location around 1909. Ralph Plummer carried out a major renovation in 1948, and architect John Fought completed a redesign that reopened in May 2011, with a new clubhouse following in February 2012. It remains an exclusive private club.
