Hacienda Golf Club

Hacienda Golf Club dates to golf's Golden Age, founded by oil magnate Alphonso Bell, who would later create Bel-Air Country Club, on land within the historic Rancho La Habra. Bell hired William Watson, among the most prolific California architects of the era, who draped the holes through the canyons southeast of Los Angeles. The first nine opened in 1920 and the back nine in 1923, with the clubhouse following in 1927. The routing has changed remarkably little across a century, preserving its early-century character. Gene Sarazen set an early course record of 70 in 1923, and Tiger Woods carded a 62 in 1994 while winning the Southern California Golf Association Amateur, one of several SCGA championships the club has hosted. Architect John Harbottle III sympathetically renovated bunkers and length in 2006.
