About Heron Ridge Golf Club

Heron Ridge is an 18-hole, public-access course off Seaboard Road near Pungo Airfield in southern Virginia Beach, designed by PGA Tour star Fred Couples with architect Gene Bates. The Virginian-Pilot reported in 1997 that ground would break that fall with play targeted for fall 1998; sources split on whether it opened in 1998 or 1999. Ponds, creeks or wetlands come into play on more than 14 holes, and the back tees (6,915 yards, par 72) are named "Boom Boom," after Couples' nickname.
