Westfields in Clifton was designed by Fred Couples with architect Gene Bates and opened October 9, 1998, as a high-end daily-fee course in a $90 million development; Couples held a major financial stake alongside his agent Lynn Roach. The course has no homes along its fairways and is a certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary, a Civil War soldiers' burial site sits off the 13th fairway, and Couples named the back tees "Boom Boom."
