The River Course on the New River near Radford began as a 1998–99 Ault, Clark & Associates layout. After the Virginia Tech Foundation acquired it in 2002, alumnus Bill Goodwin and his wife Alice funded a complete redesign by Pete Dye, who spent nearly two years on it; it reopened in August 2005, made Golf Digest's top five best newly remodeled courses for 2006, and was renamed in Dye's honor. It hosted the 2011 NCAA Men's Regional.
