About Laurel Hill Golf Club

Laurel Hill in Lorton is built on the grounds of the Lorton Reformatory, the District of Columbia's prison complex from 1910 until it closed in 2001. Fairfax County bought the land from the federal government in 2002, hired Bill Love to design a county course, and opened it in fall 2005. Holes 10 through 14 run beside the old maximum-security complex, tee markers are shaped like guard towers, and the course hosted the 2013 U.S. Amateur Public Links.
