The Legacy opened in 1999, a Gary Panks design on 280 acres in South Phoenix near South Mountain. The land was part of the model ranch built in the early 1900s by Phoenix developer Dwight B. Heard, where dignitaries were hosted. The ranch's Sierra Vista House still sits beside the first tee, and its old silos stand along the 18th fairway. The course hosted the LPGA's Standard Register PING in 2000.
