The Cattail is the second of Whirlwind's two Gary Panks courses on the Gila River Indian Community, opening around 2002 after the Devil's Claw. The course names and many design touches honor the Pima and Maricopa peoples. The club hosted the Nationwide Tour's Gila River Classic in 2001 and 2002 and later the LPGA's Ford Championship.
