Lyman Orchards Golf Club

Est. 1969 · Robert Trent Jones Sr.
Why we love this place

The Jones Course is a full Robert Trent Jones Sr. test set in orchard country: a big rolling front nine, water and woods coming home, and greens that demand respect. Add a cider donut from the farm store after the round and it is one of Connecticut's great public golf days.

About Lyman Orchards Golf Club

The Lyman family has worked this Middlefield land since 1741, and by the mid-1960s, with dairying fading, Jack Lyman looked for a new future for the farm. He hired Robert Trent Jones Sr. to build an 18-hole championship course that would anchor Lyman Orchards as a recreational destination for central Connecticut, and the Jones Course opened in 1969 to strong reviews. Its front nine climbs over dramatically rolling ground, while the back nine moves through woods and wetlands, with water in play on seven holes and more than 40 bunkers guarding sloping greens; from the back tees it stretches to 7,011 yards. The family added a second eighteen by Gary Player in 1994 and the Apple Nine executive course with a practice center in 2012, creating a 45-hole public facility. The Connecticut Section PGA gave Lyman its Walter Lowell public golf course award in 2003 and again in 2022.
