Pine Mountain Lake's course opened in 1969 in Groveland, in the Sierra foothills on the road to Yosemite, as part of the Pine Mountain Lake community. William F. Bell designed the semi-private parkland course. Bell was a Pasadena native and a former president of the American Society of Golf Course Architects.
