Why we love this place

Portland West proves a short course can be a serious one. Twelve par 3s and six par 4s ask for crisp iron play on carefully groomed turf, rounds move quickly, and the big practice area is ideal for sharpening up. Perfect for beginners, juniors and busy grinders alike.

About Portland West Golf Course

Portland West is an 18-hole executive course on Gospel Lane in the rural central Connecticut town of Portland. Built in the early 1980s, it opened in 1985 on a layout designed by Al Zikorus, who also consulted during construction. Each nine holds six par 3s and three par 4s, adding up to a par of 60 over roughly 4,000 yards from the back tees, and the USGA rates the course 60.5 with a slope of 102. The compact routing makes for quick rounds while still asking for accurate iron play and steady putting on its many short holes. The course is noted for its meticulous grooming and pairs the layout with a large practice facility. Golf directories also list it as Portland Golf Course West, and it uses the USGA system for electronic handicapping.
