Golf at The Boulders began in 1969 as the nine-hole Carefree Municipal Golf Course built by Red Lawrence, later finished to 18 by Jack Snyder. Jay Morrish completed the South Course around 1984 and remodeled the North a year later, building the resort's 36 holes among giant granite boulder piles in Carefree. The South is known for its dramatic rock formations and desert routing.
