About The Clubs of Kingwood - Deerwood
The Deerwood course anchors The Clubs of Kingwood, a large private club in Kingwood, a wooded master-planned community northeast of Houston. Opened in 1983, it was designed by Houston architect Joe Finger with Ken Dye, with golf legend Byron Nelson serving as a playing consultant. The par-72 layout is classic East Texas parkland golf, tight, tree-lined fairways with water in play on more than half the holes, demanding accuracy over power. Deerwood earned lasting fame as a filming location for the 1996 film Tin Cup: its 13th hole stood in for the U.S. Open finish where Kevin Costner's character repeatedly finds the water, and a marker commemorates the spot. The course has also hosted a Champions (Senior) Tour celebrity event, adding tournament pedigree to one of the Houston area's established private clubs.
