Development of Toftrees began in 1968 a few miles west of Penn State with nine holes. The Ed Ault course became a full 18 holes in 1971. It has hosted the PA Golf Association Better-Ball Championship. The golf operation was run by Marriott Golf from 1990 through 1999. In 2025 the resort hired Jim Nagle of Nagle Design Works to renovate the course.
