True Blue Golf Plantation

True Blue Golf Club opened in February 1998 as Mike Strantz's fourth signature design and the big, brawny counterpoint to his intimate Caledonia layout just across the road. Built on a former plantation site associated with the region's indigo and rice heritage, the course uses the property's expansive scale for sweeping fairways, massive sandy waste areas, dramatic elevation changes, and enormous, wildly contoured greens. Strantz cited Pine Valley and Pinehurst No. 2 as touchstones, blending rugged, natural-looking sand and native vegetation with strategic width that keeps the round both bold and playable from six sets of tees, reaching beyond 7,100 yards. The property also houses an 18-acre practice complex. For his combined work at True Blue and Caledonia, Strantz was named Golf World's Architect of the Year in 1998, and True Blue remains a Golfweek resort-course favorite.
