Monterey Peninsula Country Club - Shore Course

The Shore Course at Monterey Peninsula Country Club dates to 1961, when Bob Baldock and Jack Neville laid it out beside the Dunes Course in Pebble Beach. Long viewed as the club's lesser sibling and badly worn by the turn of the century, it was handed to architect Mike Strantz, who won the commission on the strength of his feel for the land. Reconstruction ran from 2003 to a June 2004 opening. Strantz built twelve new holes and reshaped the other six, rerouted the entire course, cleared 45 acres of non-native vegetation and sand-capped the whole property, an early use of that technique. He carried out the work while battling the cancer that took his life in 2005, and the Shore became one of his most admired designs. Today it shares the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am host rotation with the peninsula's storied neighbors.
