Royal New Kent Golf Club

Royal New Kent is one of only nine courses Mike Strantz completed before his death in 2005, and it remains among his boldest. Opened in 1996 near Providence Forge as part of the Tradition Golf portfolio, the layout is an unabashed tribute to the great links of Ireland and Scotland: vast sweeping fairways, towering fescue-covered mounds, cavernous bunkering, and huge undulating greens set above the Tidewater terrain. Its disorienting scale earned early national acclaim alongside a fearsome reputation for difficulty. After years of decline the course closed at the end of 2017, but Wingfield Golf Management purchased it in 2018 and invested roughly $2 million in a faithful restoration, consulting Strantz's widow and original shapers, converting the greens to Champions Bermuda and rebuilding more than 100 bunkers. It reopened in March 2019.
