Stonehouse Golf Club

Built in 1996, Stonehouse was Mike Strantz's Williamsburg-area showpiece, laid across wild, tumbling hills of virgin hardwood near the York River in Virginia's Tidewater. A former Tom Fazio protege, Strantz aimed to blend the layout so seamlessly into the landscape that it would feel untouched by human hands. The par-72 routing runs roughly 7,000 yards and is defined by severe elevation changes, wide fairways, deep bunkers, and enormous greens perched on the edges of natural cliff formations. It opened to instant acclaim, named "Best New Upscale Public Course in the Nation" by Golf Digest and a Golf Magazine "Top 10 New Courses You Can Play," and later a Golf Magazine Top 100 public course. After financial decline it closed in 2017 before Stonehouse 2.0 LLC acquired it in 2018 and restored Strantz's design, reopening on July 4, 2019.
