Wachesaw Plantation Club

Set along the marshes of Murrells Inlet on South Carolina's Hammock Coast, Wachesaw Plantation Club opened in 1985 as an early Tom Fazio design, with a young Mike Strantz assisting before launching his own celebrated architecture career. The private, gated layout was routed to exploit rolling, wooded terrain and elevation changes unusual for the Carolina Lowcountry, giving the par-72 more movement than its coastal neighbors. Fairways thread through hardwoods and pines, and the closing par five plays to a green perched on a bluff overlooking the inlet. The name traces to the historic rice-plantation land it occupies. Long regarded among the state's stronger private tests, Wachesaw has appeared across various South Carolina course rankings over the decades while remaining a members-first country club rather than a resort stop.
