The idea for a University of Georgia course began with a 1956 memo to President O.C. Aderhold about students and faculty losing access to the local club. Robert Trent Jones Sr., a friend of Aderhold, drew six plans for land swapped with a developer, and the committee chose "Plan F" in 1960; students helped pay for it through activity fees, and the course opened in 1968 as home to the university community and the Bulldogs golf teams. Greens and irrigation were rebuilt around 1990, adding Jones features the original budget had left out, and in 2006 Davis Love III's Love Golf Design renovated every green complex and added 21 tees.
