About Walnut Lane Golf Course

Walnut Lane is a city-owned course in the Wissahickon Valley section of Fairmount Park. The Fairmount Park Commission acquired the land in 1870. Alex Findlay, sometimes called the father of American golf, designed the course, and WPA crews built it between 1935 and 1940. It's widely cited as his last design, and he died in 1942. The park's archives record a formal opening in May 1940, and the clubhouse followed in 1963. It's a short, hilly par-62 course and serves as a home for First Tee youth golf.
