Segregansett Country Club was established in 1893 and is one of the oldest golf courses in New England, founded by Alexander H. Goodman in Taunton; its name derives from a Native American term meaning "place between the branches." Secondary sources credit the original nine holes to A.H. (Alex) Findlay, with expansion to 18 holes by Geoffrey Cornish in 1965. The private club has hosted numerous USGA, Mass Golf and Rhode Island Golf Association events.
