Wannamoisett Country Club traces its roots to an 1898 founding and an original nine attributed to Willie Campbell, but its enduring identity comes from Donald Ross, who designed the current 18-hole layout completed in 1914. Squeezed onto barely 100 acres in Rumford, Rhode Island, with no room for a driving range, Wannamoisett is celebrated as a masterclass in efficient routing and demanding, subtly contoured Ross green complexes. The par-69 course rewards precision over length and is frequently cited among Ross's finest and most complete designs. It hosted the 1931 PGA Championship, won by Tom Creavy, and since 1962 has served as the permanent home of the Northeast Amateur Invitational, one of the country's most prestigious amateur events, whose champions have included many future PGA Tour stars.
