About Wilmington Country Club
Wilmington Country Club traces its golf roots to 1901, but the acclaimed South Course is a mid-century creation. Robert Trent Jones Sr. was commissioned to design it, construction began in 1957, and the course opened for play in 1959, showcasing Jones's signature large greens, sweeping fairways, and strategic bunkering. Stretching over 7,500 yards from the tips, the South has long been regarded as one of Delaware's premier championship tests. Andrew Green completed a restoration in 2021, partly prompted by tornado damage in 2020, sharpening the course ahead of its biggest moment. In 2022 the club hosted the BMW Championship, bringing the PGA Tour's FedExCup Playoffs to Delaware for the first time. Today it stands as one of the state's most decorated and demanding private layouts.
