About Balboa Park Golf Course

San Diego's oldest municipal golf course, set inside the city's 1,200-acre Balboa Park. Golf at the site dates to about 1915, the Panama-California Exposition era, when it was played on sand greens. City historical records show an 18-hole municipal course of dirt fairways and oiled-sand greens by about 1921, and design histories credit that layout to William P. Bell. Today the city-owned facility has an 18-hole regulation course and a 9-hole executive course, with downtown views from the canyon edge.
