Beverly Golf & Tennis is a Donald Ross-designed course that opened in 1910, originally commissioned by the United Shoe Machinery Corporation — then Beverly's largest employer — as a recreational facility for its employees, with an English Revival clubhouse. United Shoe employees used it until 1971; the City of Beverly purchased the clubhouse and 168 acres in 1978 and has operated it as a municipal course since.
