The Country Club of Spartanburg traces its roots to 1908, when founders organized the club and prepared an original nine holes with sand greens. The classic layout is attributed to acclaimed architect Donald Ross, who redesigned the course in 1924; it was expanded to 18 holes in the early 1950s. The course was renovated by John LaFoy in 1985 and restored toward its original Ross design by Kris Spence in 2008. It is a historic private club.
