About Crystal Mountain Resort
Golf arrived at this four-season Benzie County resort in 1977, when Betsie Valley opened as a gentler, rolling layout laid through the river valley; Michigan architect William Newcomb shaped the course alongside Bob Meyer, and it was later reworked in a 2021 renovation led by A. John Harvey. Newcomb returned in 1995 to build Mountain Ridge, a more muscular eighteen that climbs the resort's namesake slopes with dramatic elevation changes, natural sand areas and fairways cut through northern Michigan hardwoods and pines. Together the two courses give Crystal Mountain 36 holes and a place in the region's summer-golf collection. Mountain Ridge earned fresh recognition when the Michigan Golf Course Association named it the 2025 Michigan Golf Course of the Year, and both layouts have long carried four-star Golf Digest ratings.
