About Grand Traverse Resort & Spa
Grand Traverse Resort & Spa in Acme anchors northern Michigan golf with three championship courses. The Bear, a par-72 Jack Nicklaus Signature design, opened June 17, 1985 as Nicklaus's first signature course in the state and served as home of the Michigan Open from 1985 through 2008, earning a reputation as one of the country's toughest layouts. The Wolverine, Gary Player's first Michigan signature course, opened June 8, 1999 and has hosted preliminary rounds of the Michigan Open. Spruce Run, the resort's original course, was redesigned by William Newcomb in 1979; then known as The Resort course, it hosted the Michigan Open from 1981 through 1984, a stretch in which no competitor broke par for the championship.
