About George Wright Golf Course

One of Donald Ross's finest municipal courses, George Wright opened in 1938 after Depression-era WPA funding revived a project the 1929 crash had stalled. Carved from swamp and ledge in Hyde Park — reportedly with 60,000 pounds of dynamite and a workforce of nearly a thousand — it is named for Hall of Fame baseball pioneer George Wright, who helped bring golf to Boston. It endures as one of the great public Ross designs in the country.
