The Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course at PGA West in La Quinta opened in 1987 as a companion to Pete Dye's Stadium Course. Built as a somewhat tamer test, it alternated with the Stadium Course as host of PGA Tour Qualifying School finals and staged the PGA Grand Slam of Golf in 1992 and 1993. Today it is one of the rotation courses for the PGA Tour's American Express tournament, and it remains open for public play.
