About Marquette Park Golf Course
An 18-hole course opened at Marquette Park in 1913, one of the hundreds of layouts attributed to prolific Scottish-born architect Tom Bendelow. In 1935 the Chicago Park District authorized reducing the course from 18 to 9 holes to free acreage for other recreational uses. The surrounding park belongs to a system designed in 1903 by the Olmsted Brothers, and became part of the Chicago Park District when the city's 22 park commissions were consolidated in 1934. The nine-hole course today plays about 3,246 yards to a par of 36.
