Newton Commonwealth Gc

Newton Commonwealth opened in 1897 as a nine-hole course known as the Commonwealth Club, one of the oldest golf courses in the nation. It was later expanded to 18 holes and redesigned by architect and Newton resident Donald Ross (c. 1920), and still reflects his influence. The course became public in the late 1970s after the City of Newton acquired the financially troubled Chestnut Hill Country Club, and operates today as a municipal course.
