About Pinehurst No. 5

Pinehurst No. 5 was designed in 1961 by Ellis Maples, a Donald Ross protégé whose father, Frank Maples, was Pinehurst's greenkeeper for more than 40 years. Maples took several holes from Ross's No. 3 to build it, and it has more water than any other course at the resort. Its par-3 "Cathedral" hole was once the sixth on No. 3, the only hole Ross ever named.
