Portland Country Club

Portland Country Club traces its roots to 1895, when it was organized as the Portland Golf Club. Members played their first two decades at Fort Preble and later Thornton Heights before acquiring the oceanside property in Falmouth Foreside, where a new clubhouse opened to members in December 1914. In 1921 the club engaged legendary architect Donald Ross to design a full eighteen-hole course, and his layout was completed in 1923. Ross's routing across the rolling Falmouth land, with its subtle green complexes and classic New England character, has anchored the private club ever since. Overlooking Casco Bay, Portland Country Club endures as one of Maine's premier Ross designs and a cornerstone of the state's golf history, still enjoyed by members more than a century after the club took shape.
