Rancho Park Golf Club

Rancho Park is one of America's busiest and most beloved municipal courses, set in the Cheviot Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles and operated by the city's Department of Recreation and Parks. The City acquired the former Rancho Golf Club in 1946, and the redesigned par-71 layout by William P. Bell and William H. Johnson opened to the public in 1949. For years it hosted the Los Angeles Open on the PGA Tour, welcoming eighteen editions of the event along with numerous LPGA and senior tournaments. Its most legendary moment came in the 1961 L.A. Open, when reigning Masters and U.S. Open champion Arnold Palmer carded a staggering 12 on the par-five 18th after hitting four shots out of bounds. A plaque near the tee still commemorates the meltdown.
