Sandy Burr Cc

A Donald Ross design in Wayland, Sandy Burr Country Club was organized in the summer of 1921 and built on 182 acres of two former farms, the Dwight and Beebe properties. The first nine holes opened June 26, 1923, and the back nine was completed the following spring. Accepted as a Massachusetts Golf Association championship venue in 1922, the course quickly drew the era's biggest names: in 1926 Francis Ouimet beat Walter Hagen in an exhibition and set the original course record of 69, and in July 1928 it co-hosted a 72-hole international match between Walter Hagen and England's Archie Compston. It also originated the New England Left-Hand Championship in 1921 and hosted the New England PGA championship in 1924.
