Augusta Municipal Golf Course

Augusta Municipal Golf Course — "The Patch" — opened in 1928 barely three miles from Augusta National, and for generations it was the other Augusta: an affordable public muni that, in the era of segregation, was one of the only courses open to Black and minority golfers. Many of Augusta National's largely Black caddie corps learned and played the game here, on a course they could call their own even during Masters week. In 2023 Augusta National took on a full restoration — Tom Fazio, with Beau Welling, redesigned the 18-hole course, and Tiger Woods's TGR Design added a nine-hole par-3 called The Loop — paired with a TGR Foundation learning lab bringing STEM and arts education to thousands of local students. The Patch reopened to the public in April 2026 with green fees starting around $20, its accessible spirit intact and its history, at last, in the spotlight.
