Conroe Country Club traces to 1931, when local leaders purchased a 210-acre tract near the San Jacinto River and hired regional architect John Bredemus (designer of Houston's Memorial Park and Fort Worth's Colonial) to lay out a nine-hole course. It originally opened as San Jacinto Country Club; after the club went bankrupt during the Depression, a local bank repurchased it and renamed it Conroe Country Club in 1936. It is a private, member-owned club.
