San Angelo Country Club began as a nine-hole course; noted Texas architect John Bredemus was commissioned in 1927 to expand it to 18 holes and redesign the original nine. It is said to be the first golf course in Texas to feature bentgrass greens, with a layout shaped by rolling terrain and the Concho River. A comprehensive renovation by architect Tripp Davis was completed in 2025, preserving Bredemus' original design intent. It is a private club.
