About Tony Butler Golf Course
Tony Butler Golf Course in Harlingen dates to 1929, when John Bredemus laid out what was then the original Harlingen Country Club. It is now a 27-hole municipal facility owned by the City of Harlingen, with an 18-hole championship course (~6,400 yards, par 71) and a 9-hole course; a later 18-hole layout is credited to Dennis Arp. On June 20, 1973 the city renamed the course for Tony Butler, the Harlingen CC head professional for over 40 years who famously beat Gene Sarazen in a 1933 exhibition.
