High Point Country Club opened in 1923 as a gathering place for the city's civic and business leaders. Its Emerywood course is a nine-hole Donald Ross design. The club later acquired the Willow Creek course, an 18-hole championship layout by William C. Byrd that opened in 1964 and hosted the LPGA Tour through the 1980s.
