About Johnny Goodman Golf Course

This City of Omaha municipal course at 99th and Harrison opened around 1970-71 as Applewood Golf Course, credited to designers Leon Howard and Dave Bennett. In 2000, thirty years after his death, the city renamed it for Johnny Goodman, the South Omaha former caddie who won the 1933 U.S. Open and remains the last amateur to win that championship. Fittingly, Elmwood Park was also dedicated to Goodman in 1933, so Omaha technically has two courses bearing his name.
