Opened in 1916 as Suburban Country Club on Selwyn Avenue. It moved to its permanent site at Roswell Avenue and Queens Road East in 1921, with plans for an 18-hole Donald Ross course. Byron Nelson began his 11-tournament winning streak at the club's 1945 Charlotte Open. Hurricane Hugo later took about 900 of its trees.
