Ohoopee Match Club

Set on former onion-farming land in rural Tattnall County near Cobbtown, Georgia, Ohoopee Match Club opened in 2018 as a private, walking-only retreat built around a single idea: match play. Architect Gil Hanse, working with partner Jim Wagner, laid out an inland-links routing across gently rolling, sandy, oak-dotted terrain, freeing himself from conventional par constraints to favor risk-reward half-par holes where strategy, not a scorecard, decides the hole. Beyond the main championship eighteen, the club offers alternative routings so members can craft the match they want. Fairways are broad, the greens are large and rumpled with bold ridges, and the course stays closed through the summer heat. Widely regarded as Hanse's highest-ranked design, it has quickly become a modern cult favorite.
