Piedmont Driving Club

The Piedmont Driving Club is one of Atlanta's oldest and most exclusive private clubs, founded in 1887 as the Gentlemen's Driving Club, a name that reflected members' fondness for driving horse-drawn carriages on the grounds. Its original acreage near Piedmont Park was sold to the city in 1904. The club's modern championship golf course came much later, opening in 2000 several miles from the historic in-town clubhouse, on Camp Creek Parkway in southwest Atlanta. Designed by Rees Jones with Greg Muirhead, the eighteen-hole layout stretches past 7,200 yards to a par of 72, complemented by a separate nine-hole executive par-3 course. The pairing of a storied social club with a well-regarded contemporary Rees Jones design makes the golf operation distinctive among Atlanta's private clubs.
