About Saint Johnsbury Country Club

St. Johnsbury Country Club was formed in 1923, and its original nine holes, today's front nine, were designed by Willie Park Jr., the two-time Open champion from Scotland. Park's health was failing, and the course became the last of his roughly 60 North American designs; his brother Mungo Park finished installing the greens after Willie's death. The club stayed at nine holes for nearly seven decades. In 1992 Geoffrey Cornish, assisted by lifelong member Jim Havers, built nine new holes around the perimeter of Park's original, giving the club two distinct nines that complement each other. St. Johnsbury has been a frequent championship venue, hosting the Vermont Amateur in 1953, 1995 and 2006, the Vermont Open in 2009, the Vermont Mid-Amateur in 2003 and a string of women's state championships. New local, family ownership is now restoring the course and revitalizing the clubhouse.
