About South Shore Country Club
Organized in 1921-1922 (originally as the Old Beacon Country Club) and designed by Wayne Stiles, the course's first nine holes were completed in 1922 and opened for play in spring 1923, with the remaining holes opening in 1925. The clubhouse, built in 1923 to a Harold F. Kellogg design, remains largely intact. After several ownership changes, the Town of Hingham acquired the club via eminent domain in 1988 for $7 million, making it a town-owned municipal facility of about 160 acres.
