Bass Rocks Golf Club was established in 1896 by Bass Rocks summer residents who leased meadow land in Gloucester, with an original six-hole layout by Scottish golfer Alex Findlay. City engineer Madison Mott Cannon designed a nine-hole course dedicated in 1904, and Herbert Corey Leeds expanded it to 18 holes beginning in 1913. The members bought the land in 1923 via bonds and Philip Wogan led a major renovation in the 1990s. Despite online claims, it is not a Donald Ross course.
